Students can work up to 20 hours per week as long as they have a residence permit and a Swedish personnummer (ie not exchange/guest students). If you are fluent in Swedish, you can take any sort of job that has part-time hours, like working in a restaurant/kitchen/café/club, shops, hotels, cleaning, as a personal assistent, etc. If you don't speak Swedish, you'll likely have difficulty finding work at all. Some people are able to get jobs handing out newspapers and posting bulletins, but there's a lot of competition (especially in larger cities) for only a few jobs. Depending on your skills and languages, there may be other options open to you, like tutoring in your native language, working in a call center or getting a part-time job in a skilled position. However, you can't count on getting work. I know many international students that weren't able to find work for several years (and in a few cases, at all). Student hours conflict with a lot of jobs, which means there's just not much available. There's no minimum wage in Sweden, but most entry level jobs earn about 90 kr (SEK) per hour, which is a little over €8/£7. If you work somewhere like a student union (available at Uppsala and Lund, not sure about elsewhere), the pay will be less. Students generally pay taxes, it depends somewhat on your situation and how much you work/earn.

What do I consider if I want to be a foreign exchange student in sweden?
What do I consider if I want to be a foreign exchange student in sweden?
I wanted to do a foreign exchange student program in sweden, but is it possible to just do a program for the summer? I was thinking for the summer after I graduated high school that I would want to go to sweden and do the whole foreign exchange student thing. Would I be to old to go?

now you haven't really given up your age but i doubt that you would be to old. in Most exchange programs you can be between 15-20 years. It would be alot better for you if you could do the whole year, because most people just feel like it goes way to quick after a whole 1 year, so when your there you probably wouldn't feel like its enough and maybe regret not going for a whole year ( ofc if you have no choice half a year is also awesome, there are a few people who find that a year is to much (. Now regarding the program i personly would recommend AFS as the greatest one, mainly because unlike alot of the other big programs doesn't give money to the host family so you wont live in a family who just took you for the money + theres alot of other small things. Now about sweden then it really is alot better to go in the winter, its just plain borring in the summer ( atleast in my opinion, probably because i love snow ) Now i higly reccomend doing alot more research about the subject. A exchange year ( or half year :) Maybe try checking out the homepage of AFS and google some other ones. Either way i would say its a awesome experience and i would say that you totally should go for it, i my self wouldnt give up my experince as a exchange student for anything. and sry for the misspellings english is not my native languance

i am in a kind of same case,my visa application has been rejected and the funny thing is that i have received the mail from the migration board but the sweden consulate(cameroon,by the way where are you from?) have not recived any notification.so i do not know for now the reasons of the rajection!!and i can not appeal!!i am supposed to begin this month the 27th. talking about your problem,1st of all you MUST show a banking certificate proving that the funds have been bloked on YOUR NAME not on the name of your parents.so you must open an account in an bank on your name and then bloked the asked funds on YOUR OWN name. one of my friend appeal 2 weeks ago,his visa has beeen rejected because of the insurance.so he told me that you must receive a form from the ambassy telling why your application has been rejected and contening an appeal case number.when you get the needed documents, you scanned them and send them to the migration board with your appeal case number.i do not have their email on head but you can find in internet, their internet site it's like migrationsverket.se! i think it is all.good luck for you and tell me the same to me!!

When you hold a student visa (type D) it only authorizes the travel into the country of issue and would state valid for "Sverige" and would authorize a prior transit of up to 5 days to reach the destination country. It is not like a tourist visa (type C) which states valid for "Schengenstater" and you can use it for traveling through all 25 countries in Europe forming the Schengen zone. What I just can't understand is the fact that you are a student but obviously are not capable of reading and understanding the provisions which have been told to you when you got your student visa. Once you should get a residence permit (Uppehållstillstånd) you may travel up to 90 days in a six months period to other Schengen countries to include Demark for visits (tourist purposes) but not for work. If you would want to work in Denmark you would have to obtain a Danish work permit. Source(s): http://www.sweden.gov.se/sb/d/2059 http://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-us/coming_to_dk/coming_to_dk.htm

If you work in Sweden or Denmark while visiting as a "student" you will be sent home to Pakistan promptly. (I checked out your website and it seems you are from Pakistan).

If you have a visa for Sweden you would not be allowed to work in Denmark. You'd have to apply for a separate Danish work visa.
