What kind of clothes should I wear in Sweden?
I am going to be an exchange student in Sweden from about august to december. Is fashion different there? example: do girls wear ripped jeans there? What kind of clothes should i buy before I leave? style wise

I'm from Norway (the neighboor country). I would say just wear what you wear in the US (I'm guessing you're from there). Basically, if you are in school, jeans are good (basically everyday). You might want to bring some nicer tops and sweaters though. Also you should bring some warm clothes. In August it could be fairly warm, but come december, you will be thankful for a warm jacket, beanie, scarf and mittens.

Future Exchange Student - Russia or Sweden?
Thank you for clicking! I am currently a 17 year old Junior in high school with plans to become an exchange student. After my senior year I am planing to take a gap year to study abroad as a high school student. Originally, I had planned on studying in Russia. I feel that the culture is very interesting, and that the country as a whole can be very beautiful at times. I understand that there is an abundance of crime and poverty, too. I have been teaching myself Russian successfully for a few weeks now, and I have put a lot of hard work into it. I know how to pronounce every letter and how to make simple, yet important sentences. Recently, however, I have been wondering if it would be a better choice to study in Sweden. I also love the Nordic countries, and feel that they have much to offer. They are beautiful and tend to have a friendlier atmosphere. I am at a loss though, because I have put so much into learning Russian and was extremely excited about it for quite some time. I love both countries so much that I am now at a fork in the road. I am very confused, if anything. Perhaps spending 6 months in both countries would be best? Please leave your opinions. Personal experience stories would be fantastic! Thank you so much for taking your time to read.

I'm an American student with residence permit til June 30 in Sweden,but my flight does not leave til July 14?
I will be traveling Europe for the next month as well. I have my flat in Sweden until July 14th. Will I encounter any problems at the airport??

You technically can receive a fine for an overstay, which you have to pay before you leave the country. Whether or not you actually get one depends on the mood of the customs people you deal with that day. It's not that common to get one, but it does happen. More common is a future travel ban to the Schengen Zone, which covers most of Europe (the ones in dark blue). http://www.zoonpoliticon.ch/blog/wp-content/uploads/569px-schengenagreement_map_svg.png These bans usually last 5-10 years, so if you plan to return to Europe you may encounter problems. If you're caught before your flight leaves (but after the permit expires) you can be deported, but this is rarely done. Some people overstay and nothing happens, but I've known more people that received a ban than not. Edit: The other answer is incorrect, as you have to leave Sweden (and Schengen) for 90 days before you can return, even as a tourist. Travelling is only allowed as long as your residence permit is valid. When it expires, since you've stayed in the zone for longer than 90 days on the permit, you have to leave the area. You can't go directly from a residence permit to a tourist stay allowance. I went through the whole residence permit ordeal myself in Sweden, and asked this same thing to Migrationsverket when trying to figure out if I could delay its renewal while travelling.

The fact you have a bit of time left on your apartment's lease shouldn't matter. If you mean you will be in Sweden when July 1st arrives then you need to check with the authorities. The bottom line is: Check with the authorities - don't depend on YA for critical information. Student Exchange in Sweden?
I was looking at the student exchange programs that are given by my college/university and I was wondering if Sweden is a good place to study abroad? From the research gathered it seems, that most of the subjects offered will be taught in English, (particularly science, which is great because my degree is a science degree) and was wondering if there were any other European counties like that? (besides the UK) Also, I am aware that Sweden is in northern Europe, but is it easy (cheapish - most likely no plane flights, just trains) to travel to other places around Europe on weekends or breaks? (such as France, Italy, Belgium, Spain etc) If not, what do you think would be the best Europe to study abroad for a science student that doesn't speak any other language besides English? Thank you all in advanced.

I have had friends study in Sweden and they loved it. It was a completely different culture (we're Irish), and they found it fascinating. None of them study science, but they enjoyed their classes, and the Universities as a whole. Traveling is very difficult if you're based in Sweden, especially to the areas you mentioned. You would be restricted to areas in Scandinavia, and very northern continental countries- such as Denmark, Brussels. If you haven't considered Ireland, I would look into it. I know I may be biased, but I have a lot of friends studying science degrees here and they seem to enjoy it.

First of all i would like to give you a brief background before i highlight the inquiry. I am an Engineering Graduate and i have been looking to pursue for higher education. I have applied at various institutions around the world but my major preference is to do my Masters from the United states of America. I have currently applied in 3 universities in USA and awaiting their response somewhere around late September. I have currently been selected at Royal Institute of Technology at Stockholm, Sweden and for that, i have sent my Passport to obtain student visa from Sweden. After receiving the student Visa, i am looking forward to leave for Sweden in early August 2009. Inquiry: The question that i want to ask from your team is that, if i get selected in USA, what will be the line of action for me. Can i apply for Student Visa for USA whilst i am staying in Sweden, Or do i have to be present in Pakistan? Can i apply from American Embassy in Sweden with the same passport if i get selected in an american university? As mentioned earlier, i consider experience in USA more valuable as it is an English speaking country. Please provide me a speedy response with detailed information related to my query. I was a master student in Sweden for one year. However, my visa expired and I lived there ilegally for eigth months (I was granted only four months, once I had to apply for a visa after entering the country due to major reasons). I left Sweden in September 2008. I want to visit my boyfriend in coming June and would like to know if they will let me in after nine months have passed since I left that country?

If you were not kicked out of the country or being caught leaving in the country illegally, then you have possibilities of applying for a new visa. Btw isn't cool to break rules..If you are granted for four months, then accept the period you are being granted for, If you wanna avoid rejections in near future.

If you are applying for a new Schengen visa you will probably be rejected. Breaking the rules once makes them very skeptical about you respecting the visa terms. In fact you might have been blacklisted for up to 7-8 years from the *entire* Schengen zone!

Yes, this depends on how pissed they were with you last time. It also depends on which country you actually are from. Is your boyfriend a Swede? It may help. Or make them more aware of you planning to stay, so perhaps you should be careful about this fact... if this thing is serious, and all else fails, you may need to make him marry you or something, and then get a right to move to Sweden due to that. But that's probably a bit of a stretch... But seriously, this is a tough question, and I'm only speculating, sorry.
