Which European country is the best for a high school student exchange?
Which European country is the best for a high school student exchange?
I'm planning on doing an exchange to Sweden next year from August to January but I'm wondering if that is the best country to exchange to or is there others that should be considered first? I really like how Sweden looks and sounds but there are so many other countries in Europe that are good too...

Vienna (Austria) has been voted the best city in the world with the highest quality of living. That sounds like a good start. UK, ummm, spain is good, and germany, mayyyybe ireland? sweden is good tho
4 :
UK or France
5 :
I would pick the UK or Switzerland.
6 :
It depends on which languages you can speak. There is no use going to Sweden if you've never learned Swedish and don't have time to do so. The UK is great if you aren't very good at languages. (same - well nearly the same - languages) If you can speak German, or have time to learn it, I would certainly recommend Germany. I went on an exchange with school and it was pretty cool. The German school is very interesting, and there is so much to do. I could really emerse myself in the language and culture there. German people tend to be willing to take on exchange students since they see it as an oppurtunity to improve their English (everyone in Germany has to learn English). This is great if you get stuck or fed up of German, you can still communicate! If you want nice weather, maybe Spain or Italy. France is also good.

Cheapest way to be a foreign exchange student? ?
Cheapest way to be a foreign exchange student? ?
I really want to become a foreign exchange student for the 2011 school year but the big foreign exchange organizations are waaay too overpriced. What organization or group can I contact that wont charge more han 8000 dollars in extremities? And if you know anything about being one in Sweden or Norway that would be great.

I'm actually in an exchange program that runs through my school. I'm going to switzerland for 4 months in February. The one that goes through my school cost about $2500 + spending money. The best way to get involved is ask a guidance councilor (if you're still in high school), but if not, do a little more research. I find it really hard to believe that they are charging more than $5000 for this. Good luck :)
2 :
Where are you from and where do you want to go, do you want to go for the entire academic your or only a couple of weeks/months?
3 :
Well, there is rotary! Its 4000, includiong plane and spending money. oh yeah... one problem. you missed the deadline by a couple months.... your a little late im afraid to say.I just got my acceotance, im moving to Bishkek Kyrgyzstan :). well, what about next year? Email me, i know a ton about it!

Tuition for international students used to be free. Not so from the fall semester 2011. Fees will vary from university to university and will also vary regarding what type of education is tought. A scolarship system is introduced though. Mainly focusing on students from developing countries AND on students with "special qualifications". Might be worth applying for. Not sure if all scolarships will be filled - worth a shot... Good luck.

If you choose an undergraduate programme in English you don't have to worry about knowing Swedish. There is a possibility to apply for a Swedish course ( there is one at every university for foreign students) to learn basic Swedish. Most Swedes do speak English very well so you won't find it difficult to get by with your English. You need your high school degree, a good grade in English and/or a diploma/certificate in English i.e. Cambridge/IELTS. To study engineering you will need to have studied certain specific classes in high school. Those requirements may very from university to university. University studies in Sweden are free. There aren't any financial resources available in Sweden for foreign students. I think it is better for you to look for that in your own country. In fact, it is a requirement that you have your own financial support secured in order to get a resident's permit. Most Swedish students have a job while studying to be able to get by, so you might want to consider that. You need to apply before April 15th if you intend to study this autumn. Here are some links to universities in Sweden. There is information in English: www.gu.se Gothenburg www.su.se/ Stockholm ' www.uu.se/ Uppsala www.lu.se Lund www.liu.se Linköping www.oru.se Örebro www.kau.se Karlstad www.umu.se Umeå www.vxu.se Växjö

If you'll be in Sweden for the rest of high school (and plan to stay in Sweden afterwards), it would be a good idea to learn Swedish and adapt to the Swedish school system (which is quite different). The kommune that you will be living in can help you do this. There is an international school in Stockholm that covers through grade 12, but the fees are very high. http://www.intsch.se/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=58&Itemid=59 There are a few programs in English at Swedish gymnasiums as well, but this isn't the same as high school in the US, it's further education. http://www.kungsholmensgymnasium.stockholm.se/en_index.htm http://www.vrg.se/templates/pages/SectionStartPage____63.aspx You should also contact the closest Swedish consulate in the US to help you. http://www.swedenabroad.com/Consulates____7492.aspx Edit: As far as I know, the only schools similar to a US high school are the two international schools in Stockholm and Näcka (a nearby suburb). They have expensive tuition and fees. The other option is a Swedish gymnasium that teaches some classes in English. Either way, you would need to work with your high school in the US and your new school in Sweden to make sure you take the right courses for graduation in the US. It would probably be easier on you (if the Sweden move is only a year) to find someone local to stay with while you finish school.

go to some education counsellor.

You will not be allowed to come here, we don't want more immigrants. They will refuse your application because they understand you are not just looking for an education - you want to stay. Seriously, people, Sweden is not asking for more immigrants. And people who abuse the student visa *will* get rejected. It's not like it's my personal opinion.

Needing some advice on how to go to college in Sweden when I live in America.?
I live in America and I think it would be REALLY cool to go to college in Sweden. But I know you have to get a student visa and can't work when you go there so you have to have enough money to live there the whole year. Well is there any like grants for that or anything? And also if I decided to live there after I was done with college how do you get a visa or how long does it last and how long does it take to get it?

You cannot apply for permanent residency from abroad no*. You must first legally reside in Sweden and apply for naturalisation and have been living there legally for a minimum of 5 years, and over 18 years old * - assuming you have no birthright links You can read the details for yourself here http://www.migrationsverket.se/english/emedborg/emedborg.html

Find a reliable program (AFS, YFU, Rotary are the only ones you should really consider) and then find the $8,000 + it will cost to go.
2 :
It is very very expensive to do that, but if you have the money and know the language I'd say you're good to go. Make sure you really really want to go though, so you won't change your mind after a few weeks and lose tons of money. Also, establish a good relation with your host family so you feel safe when you get there. If you want to know anything about Sweden, ask away! (I'm a Swedish teen living in Sweden so I hope I know some stuff)

Dear all, I'm moving to Stockholm soon to further my study. I'm trying to find the cheapest way of shipping my stuff to Sweden (PC and books). One time I used the cargo facility. You need to show your tickets and they will cargo it. It was lot cheaper then carrying and paying penalty, but you need to ask from them what they charge these days. These are Airline Cargo Facilities and not a private shipping service. Call airlines and find where the local facility is.

I participated in a fabulous program, called HomeStay Spain in SPAIN. After speaking with other kids in the group who had participated in other exchange programs abroad we decided this was the best! If you are interested in a lifestyle immersion experience and willing to learn about Spanish Culture and Lifestyle, this is the most amazing program available. The beautiful and safe town of Santander is known for its cultural refinement, and an atmosphere typical of old Spain. It is so much fun!!! And we learned so much!!!! It was so enriching. I LOVED IT!!! Since you mentioned that you know some Spanish I thought you would be interested to know that this program accepts 12 and 13 years of age students. Both my sister and I participated different summers and we had a blast! We made so many good friends we still keep in touch with! The program is really well planned out and people are lovely! Many host families have teens. They even allow you to come with a friend to stay in same host family home or in a different home. And if you sign up early they allow you to choose from the available host families for a perfect fit. Check their website www.beautifulspain.com Before deciding among different programs I had a chance to speak with some contacts that had participated in this program and my parents did as well. Everyone spoke wonders about this program, the host families and the local director Nuria, who is such a nice lady,... This program is considered the most complete exposure to a foreign country because as they say it is true that it combines CLASSES (art, debate, street talk, folklore, DANCING classes, among others) with FUN and EXCITING ACTIVITIES such as Latin Dance Classes, Bullfight, Boat Excursion, etc…, FULL DAY OUTINGS to places of historical and cultural interest such as prehistoric Altamira Caves, Guggenheim Museum, Roman Ruins, "Capricho de Gaudi", Roman Route Hiking adventure, etc... are also ALL INCLUDED IN THE PRICE while living with a local, loving and carefully selected HOST FAMILY. I know this program allows you to choose from several host families (the type of things this program does, no other program would ever) in order for everyone to be happy.

If you are a citizen of Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Botswana, Brunei, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel (National Passport holders only), Italy, Japan, Korea (Republic of), Latvia (Republic of), Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Portugal, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Solomon Islands, Spain, Swaziland, Sweden, Slovenia, Switzerland, United States, or Western Samoa you will not need a visa to visit Canada. If you are a citizen of some other country, you can apply for a visa at the Canadian Embassy in Stockholm.
2 :
If you are living in Sweden legally, you can apply for Canada immigration from Sweden. You can read about different immigration options, visitor visa and study permit at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
3 :
as has been said, you do not need a visa to visit Canada. if you wish to study then you MUSt apply to a school in Canada and be accepted as a student. The school will send you an acceptance letter. You then send a copy of the acceptance letter to the CIC along with the application form for a study visa and wait for it to be processed. you must also have ENOUGH money to survive and live on AND pay all the tuition fees as you will NOT be able top apply for students loand within Canada. fees for a 1 years course are averaging around $12,000. So a 2 years course will be $24,000 and living for the same three years at a minimum (very basic) amount of $1000 per month (although thet will NOT always cover rent) means you have a MINIMUM of $48,000 for the 3 years. If you want to be safe, you should make it $2000 per month to live on, pay rent, buy food, clothes, entertainment, transport etc, for 2 years. This means a total of $3000 for 24 months - or $72,000 for the 2 years course. If you wish to attend university and do a 4 years degree, then you need to double that amount to $144,000. And you need this money to be saved up and available to you BEFORE you apply as you will need to show proof that you have this money already when you fill out the application. Onc you get the study visa then you fly to Canada, get to the university and find accommadation (on or off campus) and have a good time - dont forget to study.

Entering A schengen country with a student visa?
Entering A schengen country with a student visa?
Can I enter a Schengen country, with the student visa of another Schengen country? My Swedish student visa does not mention if I am allowed to go to other Schengen states. Is my visa only valid for Sweden? I'd like to fly to Sweden via Denmark, but am unsure if my visa would allow me to enter Denmark.

All Schengen visas work for all Schengen countries. You can travel anywhere in the Schengen area (outside of your destination country) for up to 90 days at a time. If you are entering for the first time, you can enter at any point en-route to your destination.
2 :
The answer is YES, you can. Schenghen Visa is meant for visiting any Schenghen country and you can enter from any country and move around these countries freely irrespective of the country it has issued . However, I want to just remind you that UK is NOT the part of Schenghen countries and you need a separate Visa for the UK. However, if you have both Visas, UK as well as Schenghen, then you can enter anyone of the Schenghen countries from UK and vice versa. Bon voyage.

What is a Good, Solid Education Plan for an American Studying in Sweden?
What is a Good, Solid Education Plan for an American Studying in Sweden?
I still have quite some time before I will start seriously applying for schools, but I am very interested in studying in Sweden. I have researched a few universities there, and I will be studying theater. Is it best for me to go to a J.C. or get a bachelors here in the US before applying for schools in Sweden? Also, is getting a higher education in Sweden very competitive for foreign students? Thank you :)

From the fall of 2010, foreign students outside the EU, EEA, or Switzerland and who are not studying for a PhD must pay fees and they are a load of money! Below you can find information about it. Starting with autumn semester 2011, the Swedish government has introduced tuition fees for students who are not citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland. Tuition will apply to bachelor’s and master’s programs and courses, while PhD programs remain tuition-free. Universities and university colleges set their own fees, and these will vary between SEK 80,000–140,000 per academic year for most subjects. However, for example art, medical or pilot programs can have notably higher tuition. The fee for the Studera.nu application to Swedish universities and colleges for these students has been set to SEK 900. At the same time, scholarships are also available. The Swedish Institute (publisher of Studyinsweden.se) administers several of these. More information is available here. Additionally, Swedish universities will offer scholarships directly to non-EU/EEA students from autumn 2011. You can read more in our article, and the information on this page will be updated when details are finalized during the winter of 2010. Nota bene: The above fees only apply to citizens of countries outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland, and if these students are not part of an bilateral agreement or exchange between universities.

I am going to apply for a masters program in Sweden. What do I need to do to get "official, certified" copies of my undergraduate and graduate diplomas to Studera.nu? Can I get Xeroxed copies signed by a notary public, or must I do something more official? Thanks!

I studied in the US and then went back to Sweden to study. I made copies myself and then had someone from the college I went to sign and stamp it, and that was accepted in Sweden It is also okay if you have it signed by a notary public, but a college/university official is probably the most efficient. If it is signed by a notary public, in Sweden we usually require that they sign it, then clearly write the name, adress and phone number. Or if they have a stamp that works too. Make sure all your paperwork are sent in on time! Swedish admission official are tough on on late applicants and will usually decline them. E-mail me if you have more questions. Best of luck!!

Yes, that should be possible, but you have to check the more exact prerequisites depending on what you want to study in Sweden and exactly which subject you had in High School. You better check the details here: http://www.studyinsweden.se/templates/cs/SISFrontPage.aspx?id=4908

how to send a parcel from Sweden?
how to send a parcel from Sweden?
I'm a student from Uppsala University, who is leaving the country in 10 days, I desperately need to send some of my stuff to Russia with Posten, their web-page, however, is not helpful at all! Bottom line, if anyone has ever sent a personal parcel from Sweden by Posten, please, please, share your experience. HELP! I would greatly appreciate a piece of advice. Thanks in advance PS Unfortunately, I don't speak Swedish.

If what you're sending weighs less than 2 kgs, send it as a letter (brev), it's cheaper. If it weighs 3-20 kgs, send it as a parcel (postpaket). If you don't have any suitable packaging, any sub-post office (Postombud, usually at supermarkets) sell a blue cardboard box to send the stuff in, which could also give you cheaper postage, particularly for parcels weighing from 10-20 kgs. The box itself costs 31,- but it may be well worth your while. I usually go to one of the Business centers (Posten Företagscenter) even for private parcels, because their staff know more than the sub-post office staff about any customs rules or regulations that may apply for foreign (non-EU) parcels. They serve private customers, too, and should be able to advise you properly in English. In Uppsala, you'll find them at Kungsgatan 66, Skolgatan 8 and Rapsgatan 8.

Being a college exchange student information?
Place I can get good information on what it's like/how to apply to be an exchange student? I'm a US citizen, but I want to be an exchange student and go to college in Sweden. Would my degree be valid in the US if I did so? If I went to college in Sweden, could I do my medical school stuff here in the US?

You'll need to check with the U.S. institution that you're enrolled at. Most exchange programs operate like this: you enroll at a U.S. college, then you apply to study abroad. If you're accepted, you'll spend a period of time (usually a semester or a year) at an institution that has an agreement with the U.S. school that they will accept each other's class credits. This will let you spend time studying overseas while still working toward the degree from your school in the States. There are several different organizations that link up schools in the U.S. and other countries, and where you will be able to apply to study abroad will depend on which of these organizations (if any) your college is a member of. One of these organizations is the National Student Exchange (the one that I'm most familiar with). The school I did my undergraduate coursework at was a member of NSE, and I looked into studying abroad for a semester, though I finally decided not to. If you're already enrolled at a college, check and see if they are a member of such an organization. You can also check out NSE's website, www.nse.org, to find out which schools in which countries are members.

Yes, Sweden is very different from the US, but not so different that it will be a huge shock. What it will be like depends on whether you'll be in a major city or more rural area, and how far north the city is. The closer you are to the Arctic Circle, the weirder it gets with midnight sun/polar nights. Sweden gets a lot of media (music/movies/tv/games) from the US, so people are familiar with American culture or at least the stereotype of it. Most people speak good English by the time they're 14 or 15. I'm guessing you are in high school and will be staying with a host family, so here are a few differences: Teenagers (15+) generally get a lot more freedom in Sweden than they do in the US, some people even move out at that age. You can't drive until you're 18, but public transportation is really good. Take your shoes off when you go inside anyone's house. Families tend to be a little more reserved/quiet, but people are friendly. The lifestyle is less competitive and materialistic. Most Swedes aren't religious or at least don't go to church except maybe holidays. People are usually very active and like being outdoors, and you'll probably be walking a lot more than you do in the US. Fashion is trendier than in most of the US, and in Stockholm a lot of people look like they've just walked off a runway. It's more relaxed in smaller places, but people still tend to be appearance-conscious. There are many different styles/sub-cultures, so it depends on what you like. Here's a link to Lookbook for Sweden, which gives a good idea of current fashion: http://lookbook.nu/looks#countries/sweden/sort/newest/time/this-year Some guys like American girls, some not so much and most don't base their interest on the person's nationality. As far as looks go, most Americans don't look Swedish and that can get guys' interest just because it's different. Stereotypically, a Swedish guy is a little reserved, well-groomed, honest and genuine, not so romantic but affectionate and doesn't play games. Basically you get what you see. This is just the stereotype though. In a relationship, you're expected to have your own friends and interests and not always be together. Clinginess, jealousy and a lot of drama don't go over well. Confidence and intelligence do.

There is a great different between US and Sweden most especially when it comes to the conversion from U.S. to metric, while other stuff is more soft, like customs, behaviors, and trendy nightspots. YOu need some enormity of adjustments if you want to live in foreign country like Sweden, whether it be temporary or permanent, and we have assembled some tips, information, and resources to make things as smooth as possible!

Sorry, but with the economy the way it is, Sweden doesn't have much of a choice. They are doing what many countries do, expect foreign students to pay their own way. The article does say you can work while studying.
2 :
all countries charge international students extra. sweden did not surprise me. yet employers in your country do not really respect the education. they may be intimidated by you as you will be more educated with excellent language skills so they will NOT hire you. get used to it and dont dream big. turks like pulling turks down. thats why the country does not progress. talent is a threat there. i hope you can go somewhere you like and never have to go back.

Would you go on an student exchange to Austria, Norway, Finland, Sweden?
The tuition fee for Austria is only 760+ EUROS a semester, the 3 Scandinavian countries are free. If you go on a student exchange, you have to pay school fees to ur host uni, which is AUD 18000 a year. (don't have to pay destination uni) Is it a right choice to go on an exchange to one of these countries? I think that financial wise I'm gonna rugi besar, but experience wise theres nothing to lose. Me: Finance... hahaha... one thing bothering me the most is their education is so cheap, if i go on exchange there I rugi in terms of $$$

Yes, definitely, if I have the knack for languages. (Are the lectures in English or in their respective national languages?) I believe it'll be a great experience as these countries are not normally places one would pick as holiday destinations, let alone for further studies. Money spent can be earned again. The experience is for a lifetime.

Seriously, you should consider going to the Scandinavian countries. But are the courses conducted in English? Are the qualifications recognised here, that is, if you wish to return to Bolehland. I have been to Sweden and Norway and I can tell you the countries are great. The landscape is so beautiful. Most of the areas are not densely populated and the water and air is so clean, you are definitely going to enjoy life there. The governments really take good care of the people. Education may be free but the cost of living and the exchange can cause a dent in your bank accounts.

Can I qualify for a student loan in the United Kingdom for undergraduate studies?
Can I qualify for a student loan in the United Kingdom for undergraduate studies?
I am an EU citizen (Sweden) but by the time I go to university, I won't meet the residency requirements to qualify for the home fees... will I still be able to qualify for some student loans in the UK if I have lived in the United States for virtually my entire life?

hear is a link to a site about it. i am guessing you will be able to get a loan as the say about UK and non EU so im guessing yours will be the same as uk. if so you will get help with the fees and you don't have to pay back anything until you are earning over £15,000 and the amount you pay is dependent on how much you earn. good luck with uni and getting the loan
2 :
Learners from poor families who need to have a higher education will normally have to acquire a loan from financial institutions in order to get an education. The government, through the local banks will advance such credit to students and have them pay them off once they have started earning. This may sound good but not until the former student is unable to pay off such debts. http://www.worldbestloans.com/student-loans.htm This is due to the high interest that such loans end up attracting making, it impossible for such a person to pay off the debt. Sometimes the student may stay for long before he can get employment, meaning the amount to pay continues to escalate. In cases like these, the debtor needs to get student loan help in order to keep abreast with such debt.

About 11th grade or 12th, that way, you know that you will be okay in school, but you can also go on and learn more from other places. It may be hard for you while you are still first starting high school to go because your mind is so cluttered. Wait till you are ready and can handle all of these things at once.

Is it possible to be a vegan in Sweden?
Is it possible to be a vegan in Sweden?
I am going to vegan as an exchange student in a few months. I am a vegan and I am hoping that a host family there could work with this diet. Is Sweden a country that has vegan good options? Is there modern grocery stores where I could pick up some good food items? Is Sweden a good country to be a vegan in?

Yes, they have vegetables in Sweden so why not? Sweden is not a 3rd world country that has no food.
2 :
I'm from Holand.....isn't that weiiiird!!!!!
3 :
Apparently there is growing interest in, and products for, a vegetarian /vegan diet in Sweden: http://www.sweden.se/templates/cs/Article____16239.aspx
4 :
Yes Sweden is a good country for vegans and the food is good. You have to talk with your host family about this, I´m quite sure they understand. Vegan food is a little bit more expensive than ordinary food. I´m not from Sweden, but the neighbour country Finland, and in both the countries we like vegan food more and more. Good luck with your host family and I hope you will enjoy your stay in Sweden.
5 :
Absolutely! Do you know what town you are staying in? I might give you directions to a local vegan food place.
6 :
"Good" depends on what you are used to here. Do not expect any soy or other TVP products in grocery stores; you can find straight tofu at Asian markets and occasionally veggie burgers in organic shops, but expect them to cost 2-3 times as much as in the States. About the only vegan food you will be able to find in supermarkets is bread (depending on how strict you are) and fruits and vegetables. In the winter, the variety of fruits and vegetables is pretty awful compared to the US and they often look pretty anemic. It is also next to impossible to find beans, straight-up nuts, and peanut butter. Do not expect that many people know what veganism is, despite a recent interest in eating less meat. I have never seen anything labeled "vegan" in Europe (England doesn't count). One friend who is a strict vegetarian recently inquired at a restaurant if one particular dish was vegetarian; the restaurant said it was, and the dish arrived, filled with bacon. Gelatin is also considered vegetarian by most Europeans as well. Eggs and white sugar are in almost everything, too. If you can gradually work your way up to eating dairy and eggs, that will help out a lot, but even then, it's almost impossible to not somehow have some sort of animal byproduct slipped in from time to time anyway.
7 :
You already asked this EXACT question (word for word), and you already recieved a whole bunch of answers to the same effect as this one ... do think if you ask it again the answers will somehow be different when they all say the exact same thing. You can be a Vegan just as easily in Sweden as you can anywhere else in the Western world ... it won't be a problem for you anymore than anywhere else. As for the respondant right before me ... Swedes know what a vegitarian is. Holy crap ... where do you live? I knew quite a few Scandinavians that were vegitarians. They also know the difference between a vegitarian and a vegan, and there are stores that sell products specifically for vegans in any town with more than 30,000 people. Even the local neighborhood COOP I used to shop at (that was very small even by European standards) had vegitarian and vegan products (not a wide selection, but they had them). I guess what I'm trying to say is I've lived in Sweden for five years, and I find your answer to be completely wrong. In fact, I find it completely wrong for just about every country I've been to in Europe.
8 :
I agree with blursd2! What is Erica talking about? The country she is describing does not even sound like Sweden. 1. Swedish people know what a vegan is. 2. You can find soy products and veggie burgers pretty much everywhere. 3. It is very easy to find beans, straight-up nuts and peanut butter (wtf? I lived on that when I was living in sweden..). Erica, you don't know what you are talking about. And by the way "years of living in Europe" does not = "years of living in Sweden".

Make sure you actually talk to the family, or else they will hate you, I know, I have hosted a quiet exchange student! And ask a lot of questions host families like that, be up for anything and be really outgoing and make sure you make the best out of your experience, these are things i wish my exchange student would have done.

I am an exchange student at the moment in Denmark, and I can tell you right now it is going to be hard for you!!! The people in scandinavia are not extremely open however they are very good at english so never be scared to talk to someone because you think that they wont understand; 95% of the time they will speak better english then you! Be really open and willing to throw ýourslef out there: you may be sitting in school for a while with no one talking to you and you being unable to understand anyone because they are all talking swedish but they wont hold it against you if you sit with them and ask what they are talking about! It is also very beneficial to ask you classmates to help with your swedish, it is good bonding and they see that you are really trying to learn the language. You may be able to have a computer in front of you at school, but dont rely on it too much - ask your teachers for some homework to do in english because you just become miserable when you have nothing to do and the swedish will probably give you a headache throughout the first few monthes so you need other things to concentrate on!!! Get to know your host family as much as possible! Even if you feel stupid sitting in the living room and not understanding the TV, it is better then being on your computer in your room - it gives them the wrong idea about you! Hope this helps - anymore questions just ask me :D

I can help with Denmark and Sweden. As an undergrad student, you can do an exchange with your home university. Language isn't a requirement beforehand, but you will take Swedish or Danish classes while studying. If you want to do a degree program as an undergrad, it is a bit harder. You need to fulfill the language requirements first, which means proficiency equivalent to a Swedish/Danish university student (usually at least a year of full time study). You also need to meet entry requirements, which for most of Europe mean an extra year higher education study after high school. Masters and PhD programs are available (limited) in English, more often in science or technology fields, without the language requirement. Housing can be very difficult to find in major Swedish cities, and unless you have Swedish fluency, work will be even harder. It took me two years to find work in Sweden, and it wasn't from lack of trying. Most housing associations have a rental waiting list, which ranges 6 months to many years (Stockholm center is 20+ years). Students have more available housing, but there is also sometimes a waiting list for these flats, and you will need somewhere to live meanwhile. Apply early. I'm not sure how housing works in Denmark, but friends have said it is easier to find than in Sweden. You have to prove you have the funds for living costs and any fees, before you can get a visa. Basically, you need to be able to support yourself without work, because jobs aren't easy to find especially in a major city. There are many immigrants and young Swedes vying for the same work, most with language in their favor. You shouldn't receive any negative treatment as an American student, although you could face hiring discrimination as an immigrant (it doesn't matter where you are from, if it's outside Scandinavia).

I don't think you will have trouble getting a student visa to the UK as long as you have the correct paperwork and can show you have enough money to support yourself and to pay for your studies. The UK will see the a student visa for Sweden in your passport and you will need to explain it which could be tricky. Might make more sense to do the visa applications the other way around.

2 :
A swedish personnummer is not the same thing as a social security number, and being issued one doesn't really have much to do with residence status. You should be asking these questions at migrationsverket, they are the only ones who can answer you. There are many reasons they will extend a residence visa. Being in school and having a personnummer are unlikely to be enough on their own though.

2 :
I don't know that you'll find someone on Yahoo Answers that works for admissions in a College/University in Sweden, you'll have to do the next best thing! The SAT/ACTs are generally only recognized in the US or North America. Just like any school here, in the US, you need to read their policies and requirements! You'll actually have to contact them. How's your Swedish? Even if you speak to someone who speaks English, there may still be a language barrier! You also have to apply for a Visa.

There are no rules which prevent a non-US citizen to apply for a visa from any U.S. Embassy or Consulate on earth. However each visa applicant needs to provide proof that s/he does not intent to immigrate to the United States. A U.S. consular officer based in Sweden can determine the ties of a Swedish citizen to his/her country but s/he cannot determine the ties of a student to Pakistan and therefore will most likely refuse a visa issue..

You make a list of NGOs in Sweden focused on other countries. You know how to use the Internet, so I'm sure you can make such a list. You visit the web site of each and you write an email that says you are a student at whatever university and looking for an unpaid or paid internship of a specific length -- 3 months, six months, whatever. You say what it is you can do for the organization, you say what you are hoping to learn, and you attach your CV. http://www.coyotecommunications.com/stuff/workabroad.shtml

Is it cheaper to study in sweden or norway for a bachelor's degree?
I want to study in Sweden or Norway but i am having a hard time finding which one is cheaper. i know that higher education is free, except for a few fee's such as the student union's, but i hear that it is more expensive to live there. I also hear that i have to have proof of having at least 10,000 to 15,000 euros per month. what i really want to know is ,overall, where is it cheaper to study, i know that both have high education standards.

This answer only deals with Sweden. Higher education is no longer free for everyone. Only citizens of member states of the European Economic Area and Switzerland, certain family members of such citizens and persons with residence permits issued not on the strength of the studies are exempt from tuition fees. Tution fees are supposed to cover the actual cost and vary between universities and programmes, but are in most cases in the range 90 000-140 000 SEK per year.
2 :
What the Swedish guy said applies for Norway, too. Luckily, my father was Norwegian, so at age 18 I chose to become a citizen of Norway, therefore I can study there for almost free! Which is what I am doing. I think the price in Norway should be the same as Sweden, maybe slightly higher, as the Norwegian Krone is worth a little more than the Swedish one.

If you haven't gotten into a school yet, search for school that are known for these types of things. If you are in a school, ask a guidance councellor about it. Also most colleges have trips to certain countries for studies.

You can ask your school about it. They probably have a program. My school has a Japanese foreign exchange student program. And they can sign you up if you want to do it. Do you mean the costs as in money? That I'm not sure. At my school, the program begins in summer, meaning you go to Japan as a foreign student. Just ask your school. I'm sure they can help you.
